The major label debut for Evan Dando’s Lemonheads, released in 1990, following three “ramshackle punk” albums for Taang! Records. This album pivots toward a more approachable sound, sweet melodies still charged with punk spirit.
A record of contrasts: light and dark, polished arrangements, nods to the excesses of American culture (Charles Manson and Gummi Bears), critiques of Reagan-era drug laws (Lil’ Seed), and reflections on everyday life.
“Like Hüsker Dü when they were at their most ferocious, or R.E.M. when they were at their most Byrdsian and hypnotic.” - NME
