Released on the Motown label in 1970, the Jackson 5’s appropriately named Third Album featured their fourth consecutive #1 single on the pop charts with, “I’ll Be There,” and the #2 single, “Mama’s Pearl.” The album peaked at #4 on the Billboard Top LPs chart and topped the R&B Albums chart. “I’ll Be There,” also showcased the Jacksons’ potential beyond bubblegum pop, with Michael Jackson delivering the ballad with a complexity far beyond his years.
