Hawkwind's impact and influence spans both decades and genres. Psychedelic '60s and hard rock '70s, the band's line-up has over time included Nick Turner, Robert Calvert, Simon House, Ginger Baker, Lemmy Kilmister, Alan Davey and leader/founder Dave Brock. The English outfit has inspired decades of highly respected musicians and their songs have been covered by artists large and small.
Described in a 1973 advertisement as "88 minutes of brain damage," Space Ritual is an essential live album from the band's classic line-up - Robert Calvert (vocals), Lemmy (bass), Nik Turner (saxophone/flute), Dave Brock (guitar), Simon King (drums) and Del Dettmar (synthesizer) - recorded at Liverpool Stadium and Brixton Sundown in December 1972 during their tour to promote that year's Doremi Fasol Latido album, which comprises the majority of the 19-track set.
